"The Point" ~~~~slowly I turned

All this talk about the point brings up vivid and somewhat tearful emotions of an incident that happened to me last season. You may already know of SeaView Lures version of the casting egg we call, "The Bloody Egg". This is a tender story of the inspiration for it's development.

It was late into the fall of  2010. We were just getting past a monstrous storm off shore that had the sea in an uproar. I found myself the following morning, just before first light, at my favorite honey hole with the anticipation that this was going to be rather dangerous and I probably would be better served by not being there. In any event, here I am, at the highest location on this treacherous, ragged rock formation. I stood there with my 10' surf rod by my side surveying the darkened area for a relatively "safe" place to toss a few lures (safe being the operative word here). Places where I could normally perch myself were now nowhere to be seen. The water was high, very high! Looking to my left, I studied with pessimism my options. Seeing none, I slowly turned to my right as I scanned the rock and then it happened. BAM! I was hit chest high by a devilish rogue wave. The force of this attack undoubtedly surprised me but I remained vertical. However, the plug that was conveniently clipped to my rod was now catapulting (it seemed like slow motion) around my body much like a predatory animal circles it's prey. Oh, the lure found it's mark alright as it lodged itself into me where no guy wants to experience pain (well at least in my world).

So, there you have it. The story behind the Bloody Egg. I couldn't very well call it "My Mangled Left Nut" now, could I?
